I have not been able to find any history on the Knecht filter company prior to 1972 when the Mahle Group acquired shares in the Knecht Filterwerke GmbH. Since then Knecht and Mahle brands, although both brands of the Mahle Group, have continued their OE production to the European Automotive Markets and after-market suppliers.

In 1993 the Mahle Group purchased the remaining shares of Knecht Filterwerke GmbH.
